Set against the backdrop of the five Virunga volcanoes, Musanze city is the gateway to the Volcanoes national park acting as a base from which to explore the Volcanoes with a host of hotels and lodges. Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Experience
After an early morning breakfast at your hotel, you’ll be transferred to the Volcanoes National Park’s headquarters (15mins drive) for a briefing from your lead gorilla tracking guides. After your briefing, you’ll embark on a once-in-a-lifetime experience tracking the enigmatic mountain gorillas. While you do not need to be an Olympic athlete to do mountain gorilla trekking, the altitude is relatively higher hiking through a thick bamboo forest that requires some minimal effort and fitness. However, if you have any difficulties hiking to and from the gorillas, a group of community conservation members also known as porters are available to help carry your back pack, give you a push or pull at a minimum extra fee of $20 or its equivalent. After this day’s life time experience locking eyes with the mountain gorillas within meters away and spending an entire hour watching them, you will return to your lodge, relax and if time allows, visit the Ellen DeGeneres campus also known as the Dian Fossey museum in Kinigi a world-class research and education center in honor of Dian Fossey with state of the art exhibits showcasing a successful gorilla conservation effort spanning nearly 60years.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Tracking at the Volcanoes and Transfer back to Kigali
After an early breakfast, you will spend part of the day tracking another of the Volcanoes National Park’s primate inhabitants, the beautiful golden monkeys found only in the Volcanoes Conservation area including Uganda’s Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
You will trek through sun-dappled glades and dense stands of bamboo in search of these playful monkeys, who are well accustomed to visitors. This means you’ll be able to view the golden monkeys playing, feeding, and leaping from tree to tree as if you weren’t there. While your time with the monkeys is limited to an hour, this is ample time to see the inquisitive creatures in their natural habitat.
You will then return to your lodge for an early hot lunch and then embark on your road transfer to Kigali airport or your booked hotel marking the end of your Volcanoes National Park safari
