The 5 days Murchison falls and Kibale forest safari is an exciting safari that will take you to Kibale forest national park which is also known as the primate capital and Murchison falls national park which is the largest national park in Uganda.

During the 5-day Murchison falls and Kibale forest safari, you will get an opportunity to spend time with the chimpanzees in their natural environment and also spot different animals like buffaloes, lions, leopards, elephants, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, giraffes, Jackson’s hartebeest, hippos, and Nile crocodiles, among others, during the game drive and boat cruise.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Murchison falls national park-Rhino tracking

Depending on your location, on the first day of the 5-day Murchison falls and Kibale forest safari, you will be welcomed by our driver guide, who will brief you about the safari and then start the journey to Murchison falls national park.

On the way, you will have a stopover at Ziwa Rhino sanctuary for rhino tracking and then proceed with another stopover for an en-route lunch. After lunch, you will continue to Murchison falls national park and upon arrival, you will drive to the top of the falls, where you will be able to enjoy views of the waterfall, water splashes among others.

From the top of the falls, you will connect to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise

After an early breakfast on the second day of the 5-day Murchison falls and Kibale forest safari, your driver guide will pick you up from the lodge to go for a morning game drive in the park, where you will be able to view different animals like lions, leopards, hyenas, buffaloes, elephants, Uganda kobs, giraffes, Jackson’s hartebeest, waterbucks, bushbucks, oribi, and warthogs, among others.

After the game drive, you will return to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, you will go for a scheduled boat cruise to the bottom of the falls, which takes about 2 to 3 hours. During the boat cruise, you will be able to view hippos in water, Nile crocodiles basking on the banks, and buffaloes, elephants, and antelopes drinking water along the shores. You will also spot aquatic birds, among others.

After the boat cruise, you will drive back to the lodge for an evening of relaxation, dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Kibale forest national park

On the third day of the 5-day Murchison falls and Kibale forest safari, you will have a relaxed breakfast, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to transfer to Kibale forest national park. On the way, you will enjoy stunning views of the scenery, landscape, Rwenzori peaks, and tea plantation and a stopover for en-route lunch. After lunch, you will continue to Kibale Forest National Park, and upon arrival, you will connect with your lodge for an evening of relaxation, dinner, and overnight.

Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi swamp walk

After an early breakfast on the fourth day of the 5-day Murchison Falls and Kibale Forest Safari, you will check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver’s guide to transfer to the Kanyachu Visitors Center for a chimpanzee trekking briefing. After the briefing, you will be subdivided into groups of 6 people, where each group will be allocated a habituated chimpanzee family to trek and an experienced park guide.

Trekking of chimpanzees in Kibale forest national park takes about 30 minutes to 5 hours, depending on where the chimpanzees are located, because they like to move from one place to another in search of food. During trekking, you will be able to view other primate species, mammals, and bird species, among others. Once the chimpanzees are located, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in the habitat, which gives you an opportunity to watch them carry out their daily activities like feeding, playing, breastfeeding, resting, and hunting, and to take photos and record videos.

Bigodi Swamp

After the one hour with the chimpanzees, you will meet up with your driver guide and return to the lodge for lunch, whereafter you will go for an interesting nature walk in Bigodi wetland, where you will be able to spot different primates and bird species, among others. After the Bigodi swamp walk, you will drive to the lodge for dinner and overnight

Day 5: Departure to Entebbe

On the last day of the 5-day Murchison falls and Kibale forest safari, you will have breakfast at leisure, check out of the lodge and meet up with your driver guide to start the journey back to Kampala. On the way, you will stop for an en-route lunch before continuing to Kampala, where you will arrive in the early evening. Upon arrival, your driver guide will drop you off at Entebbe International Airport for your departure flight or at any other location you specify.
