Established in 2002, Mount Gahinga Lodge is the first property of Volcanoes Safaris and sits at the foothills of Virunga Volcanoes (on the Ugandan side), in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Luxury and privacy are what guests are treated to while staying at this charming Lodge that was inspired by traditional design as well as outstanding building techniques.
Most facilities (the verdant gardens, lounge, and dining area) here have been recently remodeled and more Bandas (the Deluxe) recently launched.

Mount Gahinga Lodge has spectacular hand-built Bandas that incredibly reflect the magic of the beautiful traditions of the Bafumbira people. Two of these Bandas are deluxe and were just recently launched while eight are standard Bandas. Each of these Bandas features a private luxury shower room, a private porch and a fireplace to provide warmth and comfort while you relax in the privacy of your room, after a long day of exploring Uganda’s smallest Park via gorilla trekking, volcano climbing, birding, the Batwa Cultural Trail, or forest walks/hiking.

Activities to enjoy while staying at the Lodge
Mount Gahinga Lodge guests can visit the Gahinga Batwa Village to learn about the ancient cultures and traditions of the oldest inhabitants of the Central African rainforest.
Staying at this luxurious safari lodge is a wonderful starting point for your unforgettable gorilla trekking journey, with an opportunity to trek the Nyakagyezi Gorilla Family, which is the only habituated gorilla group in this 34-square-kilometer Protected Area. Also, staying here makes it possible to track and spend time with the golden monkeys in their natural habitat.
The Ugandan side of the Virunga Volcanoes is found in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, and there’s an opportunity of hiking any of them (Mount Gahinga, Mount Muhabura, or Mount Sabyinyo). Over 100 species of birds are found in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, and guests can organize birding tours in the Park or even around the Lodge itself.
