Where to find Mountain Gorillas in Uganda

Uganda is a blessed beautiful country, in the east Africa, the land locked country is a base for many travel travelers. In it is an amalgamation of different aspects of wildlife. When it comes to mountain gorillas, the most sought of Uganda. Most travelers might be wondering of where exactly one can see the critically endangered species of the mountain gorillas-gorilla beringei. They are a subspecies of the eastern gorilla and only a few found in the wilderness. Well, where to find Mountain Gorillas in Uganda is Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and the Mgahinga National Park.

Bwindi impenetrable national park is situated in the south western corner of Uganda approximately 9 hours’ drive from Entebbe, the park is bisected into four sectors Nkuringo, Buhoma, Rushaga, Ruhija, each of these is placed with habituated gorilla families to track, the park was gazette in the 1991 as a national park and declared a UNESCO world heritage site by the 1994, the forest is regarded as an important tropical part of Uganda, thick with a composition of the montane forest, bamboo forest to the farm lands of the Bakonjo and Batwa communities, Gorillas enjoy living in the bamboo region of the national park, it hosting half population of the world’s remaining mountain gorilla species.

The Mgahinga National Park stands to be the smallest conservation area of Uganda, it is an extension of the great Virunga volcanic region, the park is home to the mountain gorilla species, they know no boundaries and hence share the same location with those of Rwanda, the park is tucked on the border hosting one gorilla family the Nyakagezi gorilla group initially, until of recent when the family of Rwanda decided to join the ones of the park, however these are known gorilla groups, popular for being Mobile, explore the best of the park on guided nature walks from the Uganda wildlife authority

Gorilla trekking is the most popular activity of Uganda. It is conducted in the morning time beginning at 8:00am East African time, a ranger is in place to brief you on whatever is going on in the national park more so about the mountain gorillas, explore through the thick forest while maintaining the gorilla rules and regulations, tracking is done in groups of eight members per gorilla family, time takes 2-8 hours depending on how far the gorilla families have move, in order to have a successful gorilla trekking safari, you will need to buy a tracking permit costing $700 from the Uganda wildlife authority, 3 days of Bwindi impenetrable national park are most recommendable.

Both of the conservation areas are best visited during the dry season between June – September and December – February, the trails of the forest it is at this time that they are less slippery and can be easily accessed. Other things to do in the conservation areas include golden monkey tracking in the Mgahinga National Park, Birding in the forest, Guided nature walks and the Batwa community experience.
