Explore Rwanda’s tropical rainforests and the savannah grasslands on this Rwanda Safari. This tour takes you to Nyungwe Forest National Park, where you will meet our closest relatives, the chimpanzees and other primate species, such as black and white colobus monkeys and olive baboons, among others, calling the rainforest home. Detailed Itinerary of 5 Days Akagera and Nyungwe Park Safari
Day 1: Arrival, City Tour and Drive to Akagera National Park
On arrival in Rwanda at Akagera National Park, you will be warmly welcomed by our representative from Salt Holidays; he will brief you about the safari before going on a Kigali City Tour, visiting the Kigali Genocide Site and Kimironko Market, among others. Enjoy lunch and later set off on a journey to Akagera National Park. Arrive in the early afternoon and go for a sunset game drive, giving you a chance to spot several animals, including lions, leopards, zebras and several bird species, among others. Return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive and Afternoon Boat Safari
Wake up early for breakfast and head out for a game drive through different tracks of Akagera National Park, giving you chances of seeing the shy animals before they hide in thickets. During the game drives, animals to look out for include zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, and elands, among others. The time of this game drive will depend on your wish, provided you had a good breakfast and some snacks with you. Return to the lodge for lunch before a boat safari on Lake Ihema, where you are able to have a closer sight of hippos, crocodiles and many water birds like the kingfishers, papyrus genole, caruther’s cisticola, and the famous African fish eagles, among others. Return to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast, enjoy a last game drive in Akagera National Park and enjoy sights of the amazing landscape alongside wildlife. Have a stop for a hot meal before driving to Nyungwe Forest National Park. This journey is very scenic, showcasing the beautiful landscape of rolling hills, portraying a true land of a thousand hills. Seeing many agricultural plantations, most notably the tea plantations. Arrive in the park in the evening, and check in at your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking Experience
Enjoy an early breakfast, meet your guide and head to the park headquarters for a briefing about chimpanzee trekking and the right to behave while in the presence of the chimpanzees and be grouped and assigned a chimpanzee troop to trek. Head into the forest looking for chimpanzees, led by a ranger guide.

Chimpanzee tracking can be a little tough but very exciting when you meet our close cousins. Equipped with rain gear, enough drinking water and some snacks, making the exercise smooth. Upon meeting the chimpanzees, you will have a complete hour with them. After this exciting experience, return to your lodge for lunch and spend the evening relaxing at your lodge. Have dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 5: Departure
After a sunrise breakfast, head to the Uwinka Visitor Centre for the adventurous walk above Nyungwe Forest. The canopy lies 50m above the forest and over 200m walk away, giving you fresh air and magical sightings of the forest, different primate species are also seen during this walk like the black and white colobus monkeys and several bird species.
After lunch at your lodge, you will embark on a journey back to Kigali, where you will be dropped off at the airport for your flight back home or to your next destination.
